Joanna Maiden - Founder of Kujuwa Initiative

JOANNA MAIDEN - FOUNDER

I moved to Kenya in 2009 and started SOKO Kenya with the belief that the fashion industry could be used as a force for good.

Our clothing factory’s aim is to enable people to lift themselves out of poverty. However, to achieve this. We learnt that we needed to provide holistic support, education and guidance therefore the Kujuwa Initiative was born.

We believe that if we can support girls with access to period products and education, we have the potential to change the trajectory of a girl’s life.

Through our work we have seen confidence in young women grow, grades improve, a reduction in unplanned teenage pregnancy and communities supporting girls to thrive.

We are passionate about ending period poverty in our country.

Are you with us? We’d love to hear from you.
